SAN DIEGO NKBA WINNER FOR BEST POWDER BATH - 2012
A room with subtle drama was what the client requested for this remodel. The foundation for the redesign of this powder bathroom came from the vessel sink. The polished nickel exterior balanced with the detailed filigree on the interior of the sink basin set the foundation for all materials used for this transformation.
The slightly antiqued custom cabinet was finished in a deep merlot in order to showcase the vessel. A scalloped shape was created by using concave cabinet doors, giving the cabinet character and softening the focal wall. The cabinet was set off the floor with decorative bun feet to create a furniture look and further highlight the piece.
Light colored granite with a satin finish was selected to showcase the sink vessel. The satin finish contrasts with the sleek exterior of the sink while complimenting the hand worked interior of the basin. Marble tile was set as the base of the wainscot and a silver leafed arabesque shaped tile was used to top it off. Contrasting marble liners highlight the silvery tiles as they wrap around the room.
Two crystal sconces were chosen to flank the rustic and ornate double beveled mirror. A slight antique finish on the mirror plays off of the cabinetry and artwork selected for the space. Nickel faucets and towel rings were selected to finish off the focal wall complimenting both the tile and vessel below. The room was finished with soft lilac paint tones. A darker tone accents the focal wall and a softer hue frames each side wall.
Dramatic, impressive, and subtly ornate, this powder bathroom makes a sophisticated statement.
