Bathroom with a Natural Touch

SAN DIEGO NKBA BATH STAR AWARD WINNER - BEST SMALL BATH 2012

The homeowner wanted to create an inviting, cheerful bath that would be used primarily by their young grand children. Although the bathroom was to be used by young children the overall design and look had to appeal to all ages, since the bathroom was often used by visiting guests.

A bright cheerful color pallet was selected to bring some life into the previously drab bathroom. Tiles with warm gold tones paired with icy greens and blues mimic the surf and the sand creating a fresh clean look. The use of a complex basket weave pattern for the floor tile tricks the eye into thinking the room is wider than it really is. Paying homage to the animal theme that this bathroom once had, a fish motif tile was selected to add some interest and a bit of whimsy to the tile banding in the shower. Alder cabinetry finished with a molasses stain warm the space and compliments the tile. Jurassic green granite emulates the look of the ocean floor coordinating with the subtle fish and beach.
