Karl Utzman
Designer, BFA, Allied Member ASID
“Each client is unique and you need to take the time to listen and learn where your client has been, who they are today, and where they are going in the future.”
As a transplant from the east coast and a former world traveler, Karl Utzman brings a unique perspective to the designs that he creates. With past work experiences in international education, customer service, and finance, Karl knows how to lead a client painlessly through the complex process of designing a space that is not only functional but aesthetically pleasing.
Educated at the Design Institute of San Diego, Karl graduated at the top of his class. He quickly found his niche in kitchen and bath design when he started working at Design Studio West. “It was an easy fit, I have always loved cooking and creating in the kitchen, and now I get to create the kitchens themselves!” Karl has created many unique spaces and has worked on everything from award winning kitchens, bathrooms, home office spaces and entertainment centers, to multimillion dollar home remodels and renovations. “No project is too large or small… they all offer their own unique challenges and with that their own unique solutions.”
Karl has been a guest lecturer at the Design Institute of San Diego and has spoken on behalf of ASID at numerous home and remodel shows. When not designing Karl volunteers his time with the foster youth of San Diego. He enjoys hiking, skiing, and exploring the natural wonders of Southern California. Karl can often be found being walked by his two labradoodles, Darwyn and Logan, in Balboa Park..
